Voluntary redundancy is when your employer invites people to put themselves forward for redundancy, usually alongside or instead of compulsory selection. Volunteering doesn’t change your legal position: if accepted, you’re entitled to the same statutory redundancy pay, notice pay and process protections as anyone made redundant compulsorily.

In practice

In our guide on voluntary redundancy, an employee who puts themselves forward and is accepted still gets full statutory redundancy pay on exactly the same terms as a colleague who was compulsorily selected.
