You count as a night worker if you normally work at least three hours of your daily working time during “night time”, usually defined as 11pm to 6am. It doesn’t need to be every night, just a regular part of your normal working pattern.

Night workers get extra protections that daytime workers don’t, including a stricter 8-hour average hours limit and free health assessments.

In practice

You work four 10pm-to-6am shifts a week at a warehouse. That's more than three hours of night-time work on a regular basis, so you're a night worker, with the stricter hour limits and health assessment rights that come with it.
