Someone on a permanent contract who is only required to work, and only paid, for part of the year, with at least one week a year when they do neither. Term-time-only school staff are the clearest example, but a salary paid in 12 equal monthly instalments over a summer break takes you outside this definition.

For example, a term-time-only teaching assistant who works during school terms but has no work, and no pay, over the summer holidays is a part-year worker.
